Boxers

Thank you to the exhibitors for accepting me as your replacement judge at such short notice due to the awful accident that befell poor Julie. I think Tim was somewhat generous in his Breed Notes quoting “5 days’ notice” for the appointment. I actually received the call at 3.30pm on the Tuesday and some 4 days later it was already over.

I was really pleased with both the quality & quantity of the dogs I judged. Temperament & presentation were excellent as expected. I was delighted with both unbeaten line ups. To be able to look around the ring & see so many of the overall characteristics I was looking for, balance, soundness, & type, was gratifying, and that was down to the quality of the entry. Some may raise eyebrows over the RCC winners. There has always been two schools of thought, those who would disqualify a puppy from green card consideration & those who wouldn’t. It has never been a right or wrong, black or white subject, more like not quite 50 shades of grey. I can appreciate the reasoning from those who take an opposing view, but for me all winning exhibits are eligible candidates, if they are good enough they are old enough. Yes they have to be special to not be at a disadvantage. Youngsters of such calibre don’t come along very often, but when they do, I think they deserve to be considered. So rarely do we encounter puppies who are even remotely deserving so young. The two RCC winners at this show do not take anything away from the quality of the older exhibits, this was a class entry! I did have a debate with myself over the bitch, heart v head or devil’s advocate, I asked questions, but she won out when I was happy with my answers. I believe the two exhibits concerned are very special Boxers, presumably the proof of the pudding will be deemed by their future show careers. I wish them both great luck.
